Xylolarimar Semi-Polished – Sierra de Baoruco, Dominican Republic

A beautiful example and collector’s specimen of Xylolarimar. A semi-polished slice from Sierra de Baoruco, Barahona Province, Dominican Republic. A rare crossover material that sits between fossil and mineral. Starting life as fossilised wood that was later infiltrated by copper-bearing mineral rich fluids within the same system responsible for forming Larimar. Over time, partial replacement preserved the original wood structure while introducing those unmistakable blue/green tones.

Description:
A rare crossover material that sits beautifully between fossil and mineral, Xylolarimar represents an extraordinary meeting point of palaeontology and hydrothermal mineralisation.

Often linked to the early studies referenced by Dr Huber and Dominican researchers such as Miguel Méndez, this material started life as fossilised wood that was later infiltrated by copper-bearing mineral rich fluids within the same system responsible for forming larimar. Over time, partial replacement preserved the original wood structure while introducing those unmistakable blue/green tones.

You can still see the grain, growth lines and cellular texture of the ancient wood, now locked in stone and laced with blue silicate phases. It isn’t pure larimar and it isn’t just petrified wood. It’s a hybrid product of hydrothermal alteration that formed under very specific conditions, which is exactly why it’s so scarce.

Larimar itself is rare and only comes from one location – The Dominican Republic – with Xylolarimar only appearing in small pockets and in limited quantities, making each piece a genuine locality conversation point rather than something you’ll see in every collection.

A real collector’s piece that bridges palaeontology, mineralogy and rarity in one.

Key Features:

  • Rare fossil–mineral hybrid material

  • Preserved wood grain and growth structure

  • Distinctive blue/green copper-bearing silicate phases

  • Formed within the Larimar hydrothermal system

  • Scarce and highly locality-specific

Why Collectors Value Xylolarimar:

  • Bridges palaeontology and mineralogy

  • Scientifically intriguing formation history

  • Visually distinctive and recognisable

  • Genuinely limited availability and rarity

A serious collector’s specimen that unites fossil history, mineral transformation and geological rarity in a single piece.

  • Believed to soothe the emotional body & help relieve stress
