The Best Blue John Fluorite on the Market – “The Lump” – Blue John Cavern, Derbyshire

The Best Blue John Fluorite on the Market – “The Lump”. An extraordinary, museum-grade British classic from the personal collection of miner Richard Haw.
This is the definitive Blue John fluorite specimen affectionately known as “The Lump.”
Discovered and mined by Richard Haw himself from the famous Blue John Cavern, Castleton, Derbyshire, this once-in-a-generation piece represents the absolute peak of British fluorite collecting. Kept in Haw’s private collection since 2001, it has never before been publicly offered for sale – making this a landmark opportunity for serious mineral collectors and connoisseurs of UK classics.
What sets “The Lump” apart is its exceptional crystallisation. Unlike most Blue John material, which occurs as banded massive veins or ornamental-grade nodules, this specimen features fully crystallised, sharply defined fluorite cubes, each displaying the unmistakable dark indigo blue/purple colour that defines true Blue John. The saturation and integrity of the cubes make this piece not only geologically rare but visually breathtaking.
Blue John of this calibre is almost never available on the open market. Mining within the Castleton caverns has been highly restricted for decades, and modern recovery yields ornamental material rather than fine crystallised specimens. As such, “The Lump” stands as one of the finest known crystallised Blue John specimens in private hands – a direct link to Derbyshire’s 300-year mining heritage.
