Lightning struck quartz is the product of a rare phenomenon believed to occur when lightning travels through the ground and interacts with forming Quartz. Due to Quartz’s piezoelectric properties the Quartz submits to the high voltage and will expand or contract depending on whether the electrical field is positively or negatively charged.
The result? Unique, textured patterns across the Quartz surface resembling the intricate marks created when electricity passes through wood.
Quartz showing surface features consistent with high-energy stress or etching is sometimes attributed to lightning activity, making each piece completely one of a kind.
The Cabaçaco claim, Minas Gerais, Brazil is known for producing high-quality Quartz specimens with excellent clarity and structure. Specimens from this area occasionally display surface etching or stress-related features, which are associated with lightning storms.
Lightning Struck Quartz is prized for its unusual appearance and the natural processes thought to contribute to its formation. Each piece is entirely unique, with no two patterns ever the same. Its combination of scientific intrigue and visual impact makes it a fascinating and highly collectible specimen.
Whether you’re just into cool crystals or you want a “supercharged”, unusual piece, then this has to be at the top of any collectors list.
