Description:

A fascinating pseudomorph specimen from Camp Verde, Yavapai County, Arizona, formed as Gypsum after Glauberite. This specimen preserves the original crystal form of Glauberite while being replaced by Gypsum, resulting in sharply defined outlines and a striking architectural appearance. The surfaces show characteristic fibrous to granular Gypsum textures, with soft white to pale cream colouration.

The pseudomorphic replacement captures fine structural detail, allowing the original crystal habit of Glauberite to be clearly recognised. The specimen offers both visual interest and strong educational value, illustrating mineral replacement processes in evaporite environments.

Locality & Geological Significance:

The Camp Verde area is well known for its evaporite mineralisation, where minerals such as Glauberite originally crystallised from saline lake or playa environments. Over time, changes in groundwater chemistry led to the dissolution of Glauberite and its gradual replacement by Gypsum. This transformation occurred molecule by molecule, preserving the external crystal shape while altering the mineral composition.

Gypsum after Glauberite pseudomorphs from Camp Verde are classic examples of evaporite mineral replacement and are valued for their clarity of form and geological significance. Specimens from this locality are widely referenced in mineral collections as textbook examples of pseudomorphism. Glauberite is a rare Na-Ca sulfate and this ancient salt-clay-gypsum mining area is famous for these attractive and unique pseudomorphs.
