Description

An impressive cluster of close to clear Fluorite crystals from the famous Nikolaevskiy Mine in Dalnegorsk, Russia; displaying beautiful transparency and brilliant satin lustre alongside delicate Calcite growths. While Fluorite is perhaps best known for its vibrant colours due to mineral imperfections during growth, the exceptional purity of Dalnegorsk material is what makes these specimens particularly desirable.

Locality

The Nikolaevskiy Mine is situated in Dalnegorsk, Primorsky Krai, in the Russian Far East, a region internationally celebrated for producing some of the world’s finest and most recognisable mineral specimens.

Originally developed for its lead-zinc mineralisation, the mine became particularly famous amongst mineral collectors for its extraordinary Fluorite, Calcite, Quartz and associated sulphide minerals.

Dalnegorsk Fluorite is especially renowned for its transparency, with some specimens displaying almost completely colourless crystals of exceptional optical clarity. The mine has produced spectacular cubic crystals, alongside more complex modified crystal habits, with colouration on a spectrum from colourless to vivid green.

Some of the most celebrated specimens from Nikolaevskiy were recovered during the latter part of the 20th century, becoming internationally recognised for their exceptional size, clarity and crystal quality. The locality remains an important benchmark for transparent Fluorite and is firmly established amongst the classic mineral-producing localities of the world.

Key Features

  • Near-colourless Fluorite with exceptional clarity
  • Beautiful intergrown crystal cluster
  • Intricate three-dimensional cubic formations
  • Minor associated Calcite
  • Classic material from the renowned Nikolaevskiy Mine
  • Highly desirable Russian mineral locality

Why Collectors Value This Specimen

Fluorite from Nikolaevskiy Mine holds a special place amongst collectors, particularly for its extraordinary transparency, exceptional crystal development and history in the mineral world.

While colourful Fluorite specimens are widely collected and admired, the almost colourless, optical-quality formations from Dalnegorsk offer a very different aesthetic, showcasing the rare appearance of Fluorite absent of trace elements.
