Description:

Cerussite on bladed Baryte specimen from the Les O Mine in Morocco. The specimen displays well-formed Cerussite crystals with sharp edges and a bright adamantine lustre, typical of high-quality Moroccan cerussite. Crystal forms show natural complexity, with clear definition and reflective faces that give the piece strong visual appeal.

The crystals are well preserved and clean, allowing the natural growth patterns and structure of Cerussite to be easily observed. The overall presentation is aesthetic and balanced, making it suitable for both display and study.

At first glance, Cerussite can look similar to a quartz crystal but pick it up and you’ll discover it’s noticeably heavy for its size, due to its high lead content. In fact belonging to the Aragonite family, Cerussite forms via a natural reaction between carbon dioxide and Galena, transforming into these high-lustre crystals prized by collectors. Its name comes from the Latin cerussa, meaning “white lead.”

Locality:

While the Mibladen Mining District is well known for Cerussite, the Les O Mine is a lesser-documented locality worked by a small number of local miners. This specimen was sourced directly from the mine on recent visit, during which we also personally mined Cerussite, Baryte and Galena specimens.
