A beautiful polished Ametrine slice from the world-famous Anahí Mine in Bolivia, revealing the extraordinary coexistence of golden Ferruginous Quartz and purple Amethyst within a single crystal. The polished face showcases the striking pinwheel colour zoning, with clear borders between each zone. The yellow sections are more accurately called Ferruginous Quartz, where trace amounts of iron oxide/hydroxide inclusions create the golden colour, meaning it is not considered a ‘true’ Citrine as previously thought – hence the name.
The Anahí Mine is the world’s most important source of natural Ametrine and remains the benchmark locality for this rare Quartz variety. Located in eastern Bolivia, the deposit is renowned for producing specimens displaying strong colour contrast and exceptional clarity.
According to a legend from Jean Marc TressiCre (1993) Europeans first learned of Ametrine in the 17th century, when a Spanish conquistador presented samples to his monarch. The conquistador had received the Ametrine mine as a dowry when he married a native princess named Anahi of the Ayoreos tribe, who he then named the mine after. The mine was then considered lost for over 300 years, with the material eventually emerging in the mineral market in the 1970s when the demand for gem-cutting material led traders into the area, kickstarting active commercial mining.
What makes Ametrine so fascinating is the unusual set of geological conditions required for it to form. Both Amethyst and Ferruginous Quartz owe their colour to trace amounts of iron within the Quartz crystal structure. During growth, variations in temperature and oxidation states create these clearly defined sectors.
This precise combination of chemistry and temperature is exceptionally rare in nature, which explains why significant occurrences of natural Ametrine are so uncommon. The Anahí deposit remains the most famous example of this geological phenomenon and has produced the vast majority of the world’s finest specimens.
Ametrine represents a remarkable geological rarity, combining two distinct varieties of Quartz within a single crystal. Beyond its beauty, it provides visible evidence of the changing conditions present during crystal growth, preserving a unique geological story within the stone itself. To assist customers in “stretching” to higher-value specimens, we are happy to work with you on payment plans for orders over £150 with terms starting from 2 months all the way to 12 months for larger purchases . Full payment must be made within the calendar year.
Payment plans are not applicable for items that are discounted or on sale.
1. A 25% NON-REFUNDABLE down payment is required to initiate the payment plan and reserve the item(s), due immediately upon receipt of the first invoice. This 25% will be of the total purchase price including shipping and taxes (if applicable). If you’d like to put down more than 25%, we can adjust the remaining payments accordingly.
2. The remaining 75% (or less, if more than 25% was paid initially) will be divided into monthly payments of equal amounts to be completed within the calendar year. The number of payments is subject to discussion with a member of staff who will work closely with clients to custom tailor payment plans.
3. Clients will receive an invoice to initiate payment – subsequent invoices will be emailed to you monthly. Cancellation or failure to pay invoices with a lapse of 10 days will result in cancellation of the payment plan and forfeiture of the item and 25% non-refundable deposit and admin fee. Any amount paid in excess of the non-refundable deposit would be refunded via the method of payment used.
4. There is no penalty for early payment. At any time, clients may reach out to a sales team member to pay the remaining balance in full.
5. Upon completion of the payment plan in full, the specimen(s) will be shipped to the client.
6. Items purchased via payment plan are subject to a no-refund policy. Items may be returned at the expense of the buyer for credit equal to the item price (minus taxes and shipping costs) to be applied to any other full price item in inventory. Unused credit will not be refunded in these cases.
