Agate after Baryte Pseudomorph Geode Pair – Green River, Grand County, Utah, USA

Agate after Baryte pseudomorph geode pair – a new find from Green River, Grand County, Utah, USA.  Starting out as a Baryte nodule, over time mineral and silica rich water has managed to infiltrate, replacing the Baryte with Agate. Featuring striking colour and texture contrast, semi-polished to best showcase the inside of the geode.

Description:

An exceptional pseudomorph specimen from a recently documented find at Green River, Grand County, Utah. These specimens formed as Agate after Baryte, preserving the original Baryte nodule morphology while fully replaced by silica-rich agate. The result is a striking mineral transformation that combines the sculptural form of Baryte with the durability, colour, and subtle banding characteristic of Agate.

The exterior retains the distinctive nodular and bladed formation of the original Baryte, while the polished internal structures reveal contrasting colours and patterns of the Agate. Each specimen is unique, offering a tangible record of mineral replacement processes preserved in fine detail.

Locality & Geological Significance:

These pseudomorphs originated as Baryte nodules within sedimentary environments associated with the Green River area. Over time, mineral- and silica-rich fluids infiltrated the nodules, gradually dissolving and replacing the Baryte with microcrystalline quartz (agate), while retaining the original external form. Such complete and well-preserved pseudomorphic replacement is uncommon and provides an excellent example of geochemical alteration in sedimentary settings.

As a new find, material from this occurrence is currently limited, making these specimens particularly appealing to collectors interested in unusual mineral processes and emerging localities.

Key Features:
  • Agate pseudomorph after Baryte

  • Preservation of original Baryte nodule form

  • Silica replacement with natural agate banding

  • Semi-polished

  • Green River, Utah locality

Why Collectors Value This Specimen:
  • Illustrates a clear and complete pseudomorphic mineral replacement

  • Combines aesthetic appeal with geological interest

  • From a recently documented, new and limited occurrence

  • Suitable for educational, scientific, and display collections

  • Known to be grounding and supportive, instilling a sense of safety and security
  • Believed to transform negative into positive energy
